So today Matt had his first Cross Country meet where the weather stunk, it was cold and windy, so unlike the other meets we have had this season.  As usual make it uncomfortable for him and it shows in his performance, he had a horrible race. At least we were able to get home early, though Emmy did not fall asleep on the way home the way I wanted her too.  But so far at least tonight the kids are getting along well enough, she is exhausted so I really do hope she will go down before 11, I know that I will.

Tomorrow is practice for Matt, and I still have a million things to do around here, including several school assignments. There is always something going on here, so at least it is rarely boring.

Cross Country Season 2009.

Well we are right in the midst of Cross Country Season here in the windy city area.  We had one meet last Monday, a meet that we hosted on Thursday (thankfully it was small only 3 schools since I handled the score reporting for that one) and then finally a meet this morning. Monday Matt came in 7th out of 79 5th through 8th grade boys, Thursday it was 6th out of 23 5th through 8th grade boys and today he was 26th out of over a hundred 8th graders.  This has been a good year for Matt, yes it helps that he one of the older kids but in most of these races I am also seeing him push himself to do better.  Like today he was a nano second away from being 27th, but he had enough brain power left to use his long legs to stretch ahead of the kid next to him (one of the few times you’re happy to see your kid cut someone off ) Next week there are races on Monday and Thursday, then just 2 more the next week.  The season is short, but packed full of meets.

First Cross Country Meet '09

Well last Tuesday Matt had his first Cross Country meet of the season.  It was at a new location, another local middle school. There was plenty of other practices going on so Emmy was occupied. In fact we had one of our few “Don’t take my picture mom!!!!” moments.

The girls ran first, so the boys cheered them on- you have got to love the Team Spirit that is exhibited by this team.  Everyone is cheered on no matter if your on our team or another.

Well Matt finished 10th out of the boys, I’m still waiting to see how the team did.  But I do think it was a great meet for us.  Especially for all of the new kids who have never run Cross Country before.
