That was missing one little singer……..

Today Emmy had her Christmas “Breakfast in the Stable” program at Church. Which we were running late for, since I forgot the ticket and we had to return home after getting 1/2 way to the church.

Grandma and Grandpa came to see Emmy sing, even Matt was up before noon and showered to come and see his sister.

The gym was crowded with little kids, big kids, moms, dad’s and grandparents to see a program put on by kids of the Church.

After eating pancakes and sausage, drinking orange juice, apple juice and coffee. It was time to start.

Once again running late after a trip to the bathroom I took Emmy to the stage, then went back to the table to get my camera. Returned to the stage, only to find Emmy walking back to me.

She would not get up and sing her 3 songs: Gospel Bells, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Happy Birthday.

At least she did not cry and scream disturbing every one else.  But I feel so bad for my parents who came to see their favorite granddaughter do her bit in the Christmas program.

At least she was other wise well behaved and ate well.

So we had a nice though short visit with my folks, Matt hung with his friends from church. Emmy saw her church friends, though she was being shy at the time and did not acknowledge them.

Now to prepare her for her school program, and hope that will go better- and she will actually get up there and sing.

Christmas Tree 2009

So today we finally were able to put the tree up.  Emmy decided that we should use the colored mini-lights, and the 2 100-count boxes we had were not enough for the whole tree-  kind of like the silver garland on the bottom 2/3 of the tree.  So a trip to Meijer got us another box for just $2, which surprised me being able to get it at that price before Christmas.  Usually we get the lights and cards after Christmas and I only spend $1 for the box of lights.

So after dinner at Dead Lobster with my parents the kids and came home to finish the tree.  This worked out well I think, it gave the cat time to get used to the Tree being there before we put those wonderfully tempting ornaments on it.  Shadow turned 1 in August, but he only came to our house in February so this is the first time we have him here with the Christmas tree. I don’t even remember last year with the puppy Lily (she was a Golden Retriever), who was only about 4 months at Christmas.

Here is Emmy and the tree.

And one of the tree, Shadow is in both shots can you find him?

This will be the last year for this fake tree, which makes my desire for a real one more feasible for next year. We also put more of the delicate Hallmark ornaments up.  My biggest regret from last year was not getting Emmy her 4th year Hallmark Christmas ornament. Maybe this year I’ll be able to get the 4th year along with the 5th year.

I did not put the Precious Moments ornaments up though, those are a bit to precious to put up with a 4-year old and a young cat in the house.  Plus those “First Year” together ornaments probably don’t belong on the tree at this time either.

So now all that is left is to determine how much other decorating will get done!!!!

I am so dreading Christmas this year.

Not for this holiday it self, I love the holiday time.  The lights the tree, the smell the visits with family, church Christmas Eve.  Last year was tough because it was the first one without the STBX, money was non existent than but my world was still in complete and utter disarray it didn’t matter.  We made it through the holidays by re-gifting Matt’s old toys from the basement for Emmy, that huge old wooden train set was a big hit.  My parents and their dad gave them some new toys so we managed.

This year money is even tighter, with STBX losing his job a few weeks ago its not just me with no money but him too.  Matt’s birthday was practically as non-existent as mine this year.  We at least got a wonderful dinner and he got some fun money for a field trip to the state capital. His dad also bought him an XBOX game so he did ok. Thank goodness he understands, Emmy doesn’t.

This holiday season we are going to a play, thanks to my parents, the day after we all get off school.  We’ll probably hit a museum with my parents, and my folks will take Matt someplace to get him away from Emmy for awhile. So its not like we are doing nothing, but I know they won’t be showered with toys I will probably try to get Emmy the one thing she especially likes, and trick her into thinking she is showered with toys- those old Rescue Hero’s from Matt are still down stairs. So we’ll fake it for her, Matt I have no clue.

I am so very thankful for what we do have, don’t get me wrong I know that there are many people a  lot worse off than we are.  I just think I’m sad for myself and the kids and need a bit of a pity party for myself. Before I put the smile back on and make the Holidays as completely and utterly magical for the kids as I can.
