Happy Birthday Matthew

14 years ago my life was forever changed. At 11:01 am on 11/2 (my dad claims it was 11:02 on 11/2 but since he wasn’t there at that exact moment we’ll go with my time) a 24” 8lb 10oz baby boy was born. We were new parents who were just completely amazed by this squalling little bundle of noise. For that is all he did cry that cry of pain. But we were new 1st time parents who didn’t know any better, we just enjoyed those first few precious moments alone with our son. But that nurse who gave him his first bath figured out why he cried, she is the one who spotted the spinal fluid in his ear and alerted the Drs. Who were huddled around his basinet in the nursery when his dad went to see him. They scared the life out of his dad, with the news that something was wrong. We found out that our baby boy had a skull fracture, and that is why he had been crying in pain (to this day the sound of a babies cry of pain is still painful for me to hear). But they took care of Matt, and he only spent 12 days in the hospital, before we brought him home. Over the years Matt has grown to be a young man with a heart, who really can be a nice person. He also is completely addicted to games of any kind, but especially the video game kind.
Matt was a complete Mamma’s boy so this picture of him and his daddy is especially priceless.
Life is so tough for the first grand child on both sides of the family.
Even from an early age we knew that Matt was a very bright child, though his first word at 6 months and that word being “apple” reinforced that information to us. It also helped us to keep his ADHD under control to a manageable level till he was in 3rd grade.
Matt was a soccer player for 6 years, and only stopped when he had to pick between soccer and swimming after his sister was born.
Matt has also been a swimmer, and has been on a swim team since he was 8 years old.
It is so hard to believe that he has grown and changed so much, here are his 4th and 6th grade pictures from school, even in such a short time I see so much change and growth in him
I have no idea what is in store for Matt, but if the past 14 years have shown me anything he will be able to handle anything thrown at him, unless all video games are removed from the world then I expect him to fall completely apart.
I love you very much Matthew, and I am very proud of you.
If there is 1 thing I think that Matt excels at it is this:
Matt is a wonderful Big Brother, to the most annoyingly lovable little sister out there.
