Happy Birthday Matthew

14 years ago my life was forever changed. At 11:01 am on 11/2 (my dad claims it was 11:02 on 11/2 but since he wasn’t there at that exact moment we’ll go with my time) a 24” 8lb 10oz baby boy was born. We were new parents who were just completely amazed by this squalling little bundle of noise.  For that is all he did cry that cry of pain.  But we were new 1st time parents who didn’t know any better, we just enjoyed those first few precious moments alone with our son. But that nurse who gave him his first bath figured out why he cried, she is the one who spotted the spinal fluid in his ear and alerted the Drs.  Who were huddled around his basinet in the nursery when his dad went to see him.  They scared the life out of his dad, with the news that something was wrong. We found out that our baby boy had a skull fracture, and that is why he had been crying in pain (to this day the sound of a babies cry of pain is still painful for me to hear).  But they took care of Matt, and he only spent 12 days in the hospital, before we brought him home. Over the years Matt has grown to be a young man with a heart, who really can be a nice person.  He also is completely addicted to games of any kind, but especially the video game kind.

Matt was a complete Mamma’s boy so this picture of him and his daddy is especially priceless.

Matt and Dad

Life is so tough for the first grand child on both sides of the family.

Matt tired

Even from an early age we knew that Matt was a very bright child, though his first word at 6 months and that word being “apple” reinforced that information to us.  It also helped us to keep his ADHD under control to a manageable level till he was in 3rd grade.

Matt thinking

Matt was a soccer player for 6 years, and only stopped when he had to pick between soccer and swimming after his sister was born.

Matt has also been a swimmer, and has been on a swim team since he was 8 years old.

It is so hard to believe that he has grown and changed so much, here are his 4th and 6th grade pictures from school, even in such a short time I see so much change and growth in him

I have no idea what is in store for Matt, but if the past 14 years have shown me anything he will be able to handle anything thrown at him, unless all video games are removed from the world then I expect him to fall completely apart.

I love you very much Matthew, and I am very proud of you.

If there is 1 thing I think that Matt excels at it is this:

Matt and Em

Matt is a wonderful Big Brother, to the most annoyingly lovable little sister out there.

A Day Early

This picture, thanks to Emmy says it all.

We are celebrating Matt’s B-day today just the 3 of us.  Tomorrow we will go out for a nice dinner with my parents, and later this month it is my intention to take him and some friend to play laser tag (Emmy wants this as bad as Matt does).  But for now Matt will just have to deal with a nice dinner out tomorrow and a quiet dinner with cake here tonight.  Yesterday he was with his dad and his dad’s family for Halloween and it sounds like he had fun. I really hate to jip the kid, but the money just is not there to do what I want for him, and at least he seems to understand that.  Especially with his dad loosing his job last Thursday things are going to be even tighter than normal around here.  My hope and prayer is that his dad finds something better suited for him and that pays him what he is truly worth.  But my fear is that it will never happen.  Right now all I can do though is be happy that I have the kids, they are healthy and happy.  We may not have lots of money to buy stuff, but we have enough to have a roof over our head, a vehicle to get where we need to go, food in our bellies and for now at least the kids are swimming.

It is hard to believe that 4 years ago……..

You were born Emmy. These four years have flown by so fast.

Emmy at 4

Emmy at 4

4 years ago you entered this world at 9:21 am on 4/9/05 at 5lb 6 oz and 19″ long 5 weeks early. You sure were on your own timetable back then and it has not changed at all. You are fairly laid back and easy going, so quiet and shy around others. But here at home and especially with your brother you are loud, pushy and opinionated. In my eyes you are the perfect little girl, you love your dolls and girly toys as well as you love Matt’s old boy toys. The only area you are not to girly is that you will not let me do anything with your hair.

This past school year you have grown so much, too much I think since you have grown out of my favorite baby word “nook” for milk- your way of saying chocolate milk before was so cute and I must say that I do miss it. Even though you are the youngest in your class you hold your own both socially and academically. Eventually you won’t be the smallest in your class, but I find that past sweet since Matt was a monster at your age and always one of the tallest.

I love you so much Emmy and am very proud of you, I cherish the time we get to spend together on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s this year. This time is flying by and being able to give you the one on one time is very precious to me.

Your party on Saturday might not be as crowded as you want but we will be there at Chuck E Cheese and we will have fun.

I love you Amelia Morgan you are my perfect little girl
