When is Enough Enough?

Matt has been a swimmer since he was really little, and due to a summer camp he went to by the time he was 7 almost 8 he was on a swim team and he’s been on a swim team ever since. So basically for 1/2 his life he has swam on a swim team.  Well he has stalled out, and he’s not doing anything to try and get him over this at all. He is not putting any extra time in trying to get himself in better shape, yes he not got an ounce of fat on him but he also is a stick.  I don’t have the time energy or patience to hand hold him through this so if he wants to keep swimming he has to find a way to get himself moved to the next level on the swim team.  4 years ago when we transferred to out current team we said only 2 years at this level, well he’s still at the same level.  I am so darn frustrated I could scream.  He has the ability and with some extra work this wouldn’t be a problem, but he is naturally lazy so he wont work at anything.  Well with his dad loosing his job I’ve finally had to lay down the law he has till the first of the year to move up to the next group or he is done with swimming, I can not keep stressing and trying to scramble paying his swim team bill monthly if there is no progress.

He will never be a Michael Phellps (oh I think if he wanted to he could he has the ability and talent but he’ll never work hard enough to achieve his full  potential- I would so love to eat my words here because I do have faith in him that he could do it)

This is not my son:

This is my son:

DSCN0824

(yes the picture is about 4 years old, but while his face has matured he is still this skinny about 5”3’ and just 76lb)

Compared to many other 14 year old boys he is quite small and still looks like a boy while they look like young men.
