Break Up

After almost a year and a half it is over.  Emmy had her first break up today.  She finally realized that her William is not that interested in her, and she’s smart enough to realize that she wants to be with some one who cares about her. (lets hope this continues for the rest of her life)

Unknowingly to me this happened today at school, and I helped her this afternoon as any mom should without realizing it.  We did a bit of retail therapy. The Velcro on her old (bought last March) shoes just will not stay shut. So we finally broke down and replaced them.

Oh and she doesn’t feel to sad, she already has her eye on the next guy!!!!!

Not Me Monday!!!!

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

This past long Holiday weekend I did not let us just spend complete lazy days doing nothing.  Not when we have a whole house to get ready to put on the market, or school work to get done.

I also did not completely and utterly enjoy Friday while the kids went with their dad to his families Thanksgiving dinner. The peace and quiet in the house was not completely wonderful.

I also did not have an extremely wonderful nights sleep last night, no problems of insomnia only to be woken by the little girl at 3 when she was sleep walking.  I also did not find out that she went to sleep with gum in her mouth, we didn’t need to use scissors to remove the gum.  I also was oh so ready to sleep and slept deeply and contently for the rest of the night.

Christmas Tree 2009

So today we finally were able to put the tree up.  Emmy decided that we should use the colored mini-lights, and the 2 100-count boxes we had were not enough for the whole tree-  kind of like the silver garland on the bottom 2/3 of the tree.  So a trip to Meijer got us another box for just $2, which surprised me being able to get it at that price before Christmas.  Usually we get the lights and cards after Christmas and I only spend $1 for the box of lights.

So after dinner at Dead Lobster with my parents the kids and came home to finish the tree.  This worked out well I think, it gave the cat time to get used to the Tree being there before we put those wonderfully tempting ornaments on it.  Shadow turned 1 in August, but he only came to our house in February so this is the first time we have him here with the Christmas tree. I don’t even remember last year with the puppy Lily (she was a Golden Retriever), who was only about 4 months at Christmas.

Here is Emmy and the tree.

And one of the tree, Shadow is in both shots can you find him?

This will be the last year for this fake tree, which makes my desire for a real one more feasible for next year. We also put more of the delicate Hallmark ornaments up.  My biggest regret from last year was not getting Emmy her 4th year Hallmark Christmas ornament. Maybe this year I’ll be able to get the 4th year along with the 5th year.

I did not put the Precious Moments ornaments up though, those are a bit to precious to put up with a 4-year old and a young cat in the house.  Plus those “First Year” together ornaments probably don’t belong on the tree at this time either.

So now all that is left is to determine how much other decorating will get done!!!!

My Little Life

Questions for November 27th: (Thanks to Adrienne and Tyler for their question suggestions!!)
1. Do you do a real or fake Christmas tree?
We usually have a fake tree, but I have decided that next year we will have a real tree.

2. What is your favorite Christmas tradition with your family?
I like the kids service Christmas Eve.

3. Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in your neck of the woods? And, if so…how many calories do you think you consumed yesterday?
Well since my mom was the one who made dinner, I have to be honest and say not to many.  My mom is definitely known for her healthy cooking-  but the food still is the best.

4. Have you started decorating for Christmas, yet?
Today I will finish preparing the corner in the family room where we will put the tree- while the kids are with their dad.  Then tomorrow we will put the tree together.

5. What is your favorite Christmas cookie?
I miss my grandmothers rum balls, this is one thing that my mom just does not make as well as my grandmother used to.

Thanksgiving

This year I have to say that I am the most thankful for my parents.  For with out there support I would not be in as good a position as I am in my life. Their support has enabled me to move on with my life and my kids after the start of divorce proceedings last year.

I am also extremely thankful that my kids have weathered the past year as well as they have.  That the almost no contact that they have with their father does not seem to be hurting them, and in some ways the reduction of stress in the house has to be helpful. I also am thankful that they still completely and unequivocally love their father. He might not need them, but they still desperately need him.

This year has not been a great one around here, so I am very hopeful that next year will be a lot better.
